Our moods constantly shift throughout the day, and there are lots of factors that can cause that. It could be the weather, lack of sleep, pressure at work or just being too tired to function. No matter what’s holding you down, keep in mind that there are products like essential oils that can comfort you and perk your mood back up.
Once inhaled or applied, these oils stimulate the part in our brain called the limbic system. The limbic system controls our memory, behaviour, and emotions, proving why essential oils are effective!
Below, we give you our favourite essential oils to put you in a good mood:
Lavender
Lavender is one of the most popular essential oils out there because it works for almost everything. Distilled from Lavandula angustifolia, lavender helps with insomnia, anxiety, depression, nausea, and even menstrual cramps. It also has anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial properties, making it safe to use on minor wounds and burns. If you need to calm down or rebalance your mood, put a few drops into a diffuser or apply lavender oil on your temples and wrists. For a good night’s sleep, you can also rub it on your pillow.

Roman Chamomile
Our love for chamomile essential oils stems back to our traditional herbal medicine practices. In fact, the soldiers of ancient Rome also used this before going to war! Roman chamomile works wonders in soothing your senses and relieving stress and anxiety. It helps soothe your irritability and frustrations when you are jam-packed with work for the day. As you doze off to dreamland, chamomile helps calm you down. To use, you can apply chamomile oil directly onto your skin or diffuse it.

Rose
Rose oil is a crowd favourite because it smells incredible, and it also transforms your mood. It is perfect for relieving pain and reducing stress, anxiety, and depression – there’s a study saying that rose oil stimulates dopamine or the ‘feel-good hormone’. Once triggered, the scent of rose gives us a feeling of pleasure and happiness. You can add a few drops of rose oil into your bath, but you should do a patch first, especially when applying it directly to your skin because it can be highly concentrated.

Orange
Orange essential oil is good for boosting your immunity system, but when you need an energy booster, this can be your go-to saviour. It reduces stress and anxiety, helps in relaxation, and uplifts your spirits so you can maximise your productivity for the day. Plus, the aroma of orange oil makes your room smell so much better when you diffuse it! You can apply it topically or inhale it straight from the bottle. You can also add a few drops to your water for an energising citrusy kick.

Ylang-ylang
We all know ylang-ylang for its luxurious floral scent, but it is more than that. This yellow flower helps in alleviating your stress and anxiety. It also contains nervine, an antidepressant that calms your nerves and soothes your mind. However, ylang-ylang has a strong aroma, so you should only use a few drops and diffuse it with water or carrier oil.
