5 Simple Tricks to Brighter Skin!

Who doesn’t want brighter skin! Dewy, glass skin seems to trend year on year and yet, that radiance seems so hard to achieve. Today, we give you some simple yet amazing tips to achieve the glow you’ve always wanted. Read through these easy ways of getting better skin, buying the right makeup and everything else allows you to flaunt that natural-looking glow, almost effortlessly.

1. Exfoliate, Exfoliate, Exfoliate

When it comes to better skin, it is important to remove the build-up of dead skin cells. Your complexion needs to be smooth in order to reflect light aka, appear lush and glowy!

But here’s where age comes in. As we grow older, the turnover of our skin cells slows down and as dead cells start to accumulate on your surface, they make the skin appear dull, grey and lifeless. This is why you need to invest in a range of exfoliators including peels, microbeads(gentle ones!) and acids.

Got sensitive skin? Opt for gentler formulations like glycolic or lactic acid and use them once a week.

2. Buy Better Skincare

Cleaner skin means, your skincare will be better absorbed by the blank canvas you created. This also means you need to buy the right skincare that works hard at giving you brighter skin! Retinol is a good bet as it has anti-ageing properties along with the ability to stimulate collagen production.

Similarly, Vitamin C is another must-have for your beauty drawers if it’s brightened skin you are after. Vitamin C is a potent antioxidant that brightens the skin along with fading sun spots or pigmentation. Just make sure to choose one that is shelf-stable and use religiously to see real changes.

Finally, if you don’t give your skin optimum moisturising, it will look dry and dull. Opt for hydrators that contain ingredients for skin barrier repair such as Ceramides.

3. Get Your Sleep in Order

There’s plenty tied to the hours you snooze, and that includes your skin. Aside from giving your skin enough time to rest and recuperate, your body is hard at work to keep your skin optimal while you sleep. It boosts blood flow to the skin and that is how you wake up to that healthy glow. Sleep less and you’ll invite a lack-lustre complexion as there’s a decrease in blood flow to the face. Also, there’s a reason we call it beauty sleep!

4. Keep Stress at Bay

Stress affects your whole body, mentally and physically, so there’s no surprise it also shows up on your skin. What does stressed skin look like? Dull, sallow and dry or you could even trigger acne and eczema!

It is important to dial back on work, pressure or negative emotions if those are the reason for your stress. Invest in a mindfulness app and practice breathing exercises that help you de-stress. While your body is slowing down on the stress quotient, it would be helpful to be gentle to your skin too. Focus on getting a simpler skincare routine in place – stay away from harsh and abrasive products and invest in hydrating oils and moisturisers.

Another great way to destress is to put on a face mask every couple of days. Sit back, relax with music or read that book you’ve been wanting to, every little activity that helps you enjoy life at a slow pace counts!

5. Fake It

If all else fails, make sure you’ve bought the right makeup and tools to fake a glow. First off, stay away from cakey or matte foundations as these stop light from bouncing off your face. Instead, go for hydrating formulas like CC Creams that can give coverage while working on a plumper, softer complexion.

Highlighters also make great fake glow investments. Highlighting allows you to use a powder, stick or liquid on the high points of your face, giving it that glow you are after. Pro tip – mix a drop (or three!) of highlighting liquid in your moisturiser for a naturally lit-from-within look.
